It’s been such a struggle of a season that people are actually talking about trading Mason Miller now, and I get why, but I’m not there. 48-48 at the break is disappointing, no way around it, and I understand why fans want something drastic. I just don’t think Mason Miller is the guy you move.
The pros are real, I’ll give them that. You’d probably get a major leaguer and some prospects for a farm system that isn’t great right now, and he’s under control through 2029, which is a massive bargaining chip. But the cons are where I live. This guy can run it up to 103 and still dot the corner with a slider. He’s not a thrower, he’s a pitcher, and I think he only gets better from here. Compare that to Adrian Morejon, who’s a rental heading into free agency. That’s the guy you trade, not Mason Miller.
Unless a team is dead set on him and willing to way overpay, you keep him. You build around a guy like that. AJ Preller’s got a lot of work to do this month either way, and the second half starts with a series against the Royals, 38-59, that this team has to win if they want to call themselves contenders. No more running the same team out there and expecting a different result.
