Max Scherzer made his Blue Jays debut this week, and after losing two ABS challenges in two innings, he wasn’t shy about how he feels. “Can we just be judged by humans?” is the quote going around, and I get where he’s coming from even if I don’t fully agree. He’s not wrong that umpires are good at this. The question is whether good is good enough anymore.
And he’s not alone on this either. Our own Yu Darvish has said he’s not a fan of it either, said there were a couple pitches this spring he thought were strikes that got called balls. When you’ve got a future Hall of Fame arm and a Cy Young winner both raising an eyebrow at the same system, that’s worth paying attention to, even if I still think this is the right direction for the game long term.
Also touched on Alek Jacob’s spring so far and the latest NFLPA team report cards, which are always a fun, occasionally brutal read for fans of teams that grade out poorly.
